Samantha Smith of Baltimore (21244) has been awarded a $6,500 scholarship, assistance with national security clearance processing and a paid summer internship at Lockheed Martin

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Samantha Smith, a rising senior at McDaniel College from Baltimore (21244) has been selected for the National Security Scholars (NSSP) program. 

She is one of 21 students from an Independent College Fund of Maryland (I-Fund) member college and among two students from McDaniel awarded a scholarship, assistance with national security clearance processing and an internship. Smith received a $6,500 scholarship for her senior year at McDaniel and a paid summer internship at Lockheed Martin. 

In its 19th year, the NSSP has awarded $3.4 million in scholarships to more than 300 students attending an I-Fund member college or university. Through the NSSP, the I-Fund aids in the critical and increasing need for qualified, security-cleared agents to support the intelligence and defense industry in Maryland and the nation. 

I-Fund is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the mission of Maryland’s independent colleges and universities by securing financial aid and internship experiences for students attending member institutions. 

In addition to McDaniel, member institutions include Capitol Technology University, Goucher College, Hood College, Johns Hopkins University, Loyola University Maryland, Mount St. Mary’s University, Notre Dame of Maryland University, St. John’s College, Stevenson University, Washington Adventist University and Washington College.
