McDaniel College athletes Jamie Weisser of Chappaqua, N.Y., a senior on the softball team, and Bryan Ruygrok of Ellicott City, Md., a senior on the men's lacrosse team, have earned Centennial Conference (CC) Player of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 20-26.
Named the CC Pitcher of the Week, Weisser led the Green Terror (3-1) to a 3-1 start to the season, going 2-0 in the circle. She did not allow an earned run in 12 innings of work. She opened the season with a complete-game victory on Feb. 25, scattering five hits.
Ruygrok, named the CC Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, led the Green Terror (2-1) and went 2-0 in goal on the week, posting a 5.71 goals-against average in wins over Immaculata and Birmingham-Southern. He made 19 saves on the week for a .655 save percentage. In the Feb. 25 9-7 win over Birmingham-Southern, he made 12 stops in cage. For the season, he has gas a .659 save percentage and a 6.09 goals-against average.
In other sports action, Nicole Hill of Bowie, Md., finished second in the 60 to lead McDaniel at the 2017 Centennial Conference women's indoor track and field championship hosted by Ursinus on Feb. 25–26. Hill won the silver medal in the 60 meters with a time of 8.00 seconds. She qualified fifth in the prelims with a time of 8.09 seconds before improving both her time and place in the finals. The Green Terror finished ninth with 20 points. Johns Hopkins won the team title at the 10-team championship with 180 points, defeating second-place Dickinson by 18 points.
