You Still Have a Role Here

At McDaniel we recognize that the college experience is truly a family one. While it’s students who are in the classroom and getting involved on campus, the family at home is the cheerleader on the sideline who plays an equally important role.

We’re always here to answer your questions and address any concerns that arise. Feel free to contact us any time. Meanwhile, you can learn a lot right here about Residence Life, Health Services and Orientation.

Resources and Contact Info

The First Stop

The "First Stop" – Center for the First Year Experience, serves as a home base for students in their first year at McDaniel (first-year or first-year transfer). First Stop is the one-stop place for students to ask questions, get information, come in and say “hello” and get individual academic support. First Stop houses many components of the First Year Experience Program including the Peer Mentor program, First Year Seminar, Transfer Student Seminar, and new student orientation. The center also hosts workshops and meeting space for student programs (peer mentor programs, academic workshops, tutoring, First Year Council, Alpha Lambda Delta first year honor society, and more). As the First Stop expands and grows, it will provide additional opportunities for first-year students and families to connect to the community through this new center.

The First Stop is located in Hoover Library – 2nd floor. The center can be reached at: 410-857-2790 or

Move-in Day Made Easy

“Don’t lift a finger!” That is the instruction to parents when they pull up in front of residence halls on Move-In Day. In McDaniel tradition, a crew of volunteers, including peer mentors, resident assistants, ROTC members and cheerleaders, among others, pitch in to help first-years get settled into Whiteford and Rouzer halls on Move-in Day.

Even President Roger Casey and Board Chair Marty Hill don the volunteers’ signature bright-yellow T-shirts and haul boxes jammed with all the comforts of home. Families have little to do but marvel as their cars, trucks and vans are emptied by a highly coordinated contingent of eager movers.
